Criticom Monitoring Services, the largest wholesale monitoring company in the United States, has announced a new wireless video offering that provides security dealers a cost-effective and portable, outdoor camera for their customers.
The city of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., has awarded Schneider Electric a $2 million contract for a wireless video surveillance system. Schneider Electric will design, install and maintain a network of more than 200 digital surveillance cameras located throughout the city’s downtown area, commercial areas, school zones, parks and parking garages.
What’s the next generation of remote monitoring? Think cellular. As technology improves and cellular networks are upgraded, the notion of transmitting IP information, both data and video, is becoming a reality.

Exalt Communications recently announced that the Town of Castle Rock, Colo. has deployed 10 Exalt EX-11s digital microwave radio systems to reliably deliver video surveillance traffic that helps protect its water distribution facilities.
When Diablo Valley College in California converted its life science building to an advanced technology center, it upgraded the building's security without the need for hard wiring. Jack Shaffer, facilities project manager for the district, said the major remodeling project was more like a retrofit, with wireless locks fitting in nicely. He also said access control went even smoother because the integrator didn't have to pull cables to each opening.
